Hi, I’m Schall Adams and I know from my own life that transformation is a process. Creating and designing a life is a process. I have have spent thousands of dollars on my own personal development. I’ve put in the time reading, listening, watching and attending anything to do with personal and business development.

I have made good investments in training and coaching and I have made some really bad investments too! Some of my bad investments were with good teachers… just not right for me at the time. Some of the investments were made with bad teachers. And some of the advice I received cost me dearly.

In fact one piece of advice I received not only hurt me financially, but put me in a position of failure where I was giving bad service to the people I was trying to help. It was a miserable time for me. I knew in my heart that the right thing to do was refund EVERYONE in the program. Thousands of dollars!

I can’t blame the person who gave me that advice though. You see, my gut told me not to take the advice. But, my head said, “Wait! Isn’t that the same advice that I got from one of the teachers in the movie, “The Secret” when I worked for her?” It must be right. Right?…um NOPE!

Finally I discovered something crucial.

I am unique. In fact, everyone is unique. I realized that all my interests, hobbies, skills, talents and personal characteristics put together made me unique. IT IS THE COMBINATION of all these factors that makes me a unique being. The key to success is to use WHO I AM to become better, not start from scratch and try to build myself in the image of others. I began to use the advice of mentors in a different way. Not to try and emulate them but to apply their advice directly to my situation. And, I learned to listen to my gut.

That is how I was able to create a completely unique philosophy and program. And, this is why Thrive Teachers exists. I was able to take ‘me’ and build up who I already am. This was an amazing revelation. No longer was I looking outside myself for answers. Now, I could interact with mentors and teachers and learn from them in a whole new way.

I know I’m not the only one with a story like this either! In fact my partner at Thrive Teachers has her own nightmare story to tell…

Hi, I’m Lisa Metzgar.  Teachers and mentors have been a huge part of my life.  In college, there were good ones and there were bad ones.  You didn’t really have a choice.  That was the message that I received.  You didn’t have a choice and you just had to make it work for you.  Organic Chemistry ended up being one of the worst experiences of my life due to an all time bad, sadistic professor…but I got through it.

After college I decided I wanted to pursue my interest of Nutrition.  I am sure that the reason I loved Nutrition in college was because I had a great professor in the subject. So after having a job that held very little interest for me and was a dead end, I decided to search out a nutrition program.

I found a Holistic Health Practitioner training program focused in nutritional consulting…PERFECT! I found the program that was perfect, but the only downside…the main nutrition teacher, a Naturopathic doctor who undoubtedly knew her stuff, wasn’t a great mentor.  She had an agenda that caused many of her students to quit the program.  I stuck it out because that was what I was taught to do and found at the end of the program that I really didn’t learn as much as I had hoped.  After several thousands of dollars, I was disappointed in the nutritional consulting aspect of my program and didn’t feel confident to go out and really help people the way I wanted to.

I believe that we can learn something from every situation…good or bad.  During my Holistic Health Practitioner training program I also had the experience of a great mentor who helped me with a huge transformation in my life.  I was able to experience what it was like to have a true mentor that was a great fit for me.  He had many students in his program who he helped make huge transformations.  There were also students in his program that couldn’t stand him. What that experience taught me was that even though someone is brilliant at what they do and may be a great mentor to some, there is not a one size fits all.

Since having experienced a true mentor in my life, I now have a passion for searching out others.  You can find mentors in any aspect of life.  After having a baby 9 years ago, I decided I wanted to start running.  I started with the goal of a 10K and then decided it was time to run a marathon.  I usually go big!  Well, since I never ran more than this one 10K I knew that I needed a mentor.  I started running with Team In Training which is a charity organization for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because I had heard they had a great mentor program.  I found a mentor in the group that worked for me and ended up becoming a mentor myself the second season because I found it so valuable for me.

I love that the internet has made it so easy to search out mentors.  I have taken teleseminars that sounded awesome and then was very disappointed with the content and I have taken others that I got a ton of value from.  Having the option to listen to someone whether or not I am ready to invest in them is invaluable.  These teleseminars are two fold.  It gives the lifelong learner the opportunity to experience a mentor…and it also gives the mentors the opportunity to teach to the people who need them and their information.

I coach people in wellness and nutrition programs.  I know that I am not a perfect fit for everyone I meet.  I also know that not every potential client is my ideal client.The try before you buy approach works for me as a coach as well as the lifelong learner in me.
